CDGM to Schott Optical Glass Equivalents

A CDGM to Schott cross-reference guide for engineers reviewing comparable optical glass candidates before confirming precision optics production.

Overview

CDGM and Schott glass codes are often compared during optical design review, supplier qualification, and replacement material discussions. This guide lists selected clean cross-reference candidates from the source table and explains how to use them without overstating equivalence.

The data is intended for engineering review. It does not prove that a CDGM glass and a Schott glass are identical, formally approved substitutes, or suitable for production without validation.

How to Read the Table

Start with refractive index nd @ 588 nm and Abbe number vd, then compare manufacturer glass codes and the practical design requirement. A close nd and vd match can support a substitution discussion, but it does not settle transmission, thermal behavior, melt quality, coating performance, or fabrication risk.

For broader background, review the Optical Glass Cross-Reference Guide. If your application is infrared, also compare the requirement with ZnSe, germanium, and other IR optical materials.

Why Validation Still Matters

Even when two codes look close, the optical system may depend on more than nd and vd. Transmission range, internal quality, blank size, thermal expansion, environmental exposure, surface finish, coating stack, and inspection requirements can change the practical result.

For custom optical components, the safest workflow is to review the glass candidate against the drawing and application first, then confirm whether the request should be manufactured as glass optics, IR optical components, or another material route.

Request a CDGM to Schott Review

Send the CDGM code, Schott reference, drawing, wavelength range, size, tolerance, coating target, and quantity through the contact page. We will treat the table as a cross-reference candidate list for engineering evaluation.
