Material Guide
CVD ZnSe
High-transmission infrared material widely used for CO2 laser windows and lenses.
Material Introduction
CVD ZnSe combines high infrared transmission, good machinability, and stable quality for industrial optics. It is commonly selected for high-power laser systems and thermal imaging windows.
Optical Performance
Typical optical performance at room temperature:
| Metric | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Transmission Range | 0.5 - 20 um |
| Refractive Index (10.6 um) | ~2.40 |
| Absorption Coefficient (10.6 um) | < 5e-4 cm-1 |
| Thermal Expansion | ~7.5e-6 /K |
Applications
- CO2 laser cutting and welding optics
- Thermal imaging systems
- Infrared spectroscopy instruments
Comparison Notes
Compared with Ge, ZnSe is lighter and usually easier to coat for high-power 10.6 um operation. Compared with ZnS, ZnSe generally provides stronger 10.6 um performance for laser-focused applications.
