Overview
ZnSe ATR prisms are used for attenuated total reflection spectroscopy and infrared sampling. ZnSe is also used in CO2 laser optics because it transmits strongly near the 10.6 µm operating wavelength, but ATR applications require careful review of contact geometry, coating, sample chemistry, cleaning method, and surface condition.
Why ZnSe ATR Geometry Matters
ZnSe provides broad infrared transmission and useful thermal shock resistance, but it is softer than multispectral grade ZnS and can scratch if handling and cleaning are not controlled. For high-power or high-sensitivity optical systems, engineers should confirm bulk absorption, internal material quality, polishing requirements, and coating durability before release.
